Information for Sunshine families

Here for your whānau

Whether you are returning to work or study, looking for time for your child to socialise, seeking respite, or preparing for school, we will talk through what your family needs. We understand that choosing childcare can feel big; you are welcome to ask questions and visit both centres.

Starting and settling in

We encourage families to enquire early, especially for infant spaces. Transitions are individual: we offer six transition visits, starting at one hour and building to three hours over two weeks where this suits the child and whānau. We stay flexible because children and family situations differ.

Children move through the centre with care and understanding. For school transition, our centres create a Mini Portfolio with links to the primary school curriculum for the child’s new entrant teacher.

Food, nappies and everyday care

Fees include free unlimited nappies, individual learning folders and cow’s milk for bottles (not formula), as well as food. Our heart-healthy, allergy-friendly meals are free for all children. Menus are developed termly on a four-week cycle, with seasonal and homegrown fruit and vegetables available each day. Our onsite chef prepares varied meals aligned with the Healthy Heart Programme; Sunshine holds a Rito (Founding) Healthy Heart Award.

Safety, wellbeing and policies

We maintain documented policies and procedures for children’s safety and wellbeing. Key areas include illness, sleep, nappy changing and toileting, food and nutrition, child protection, emergencies, medication, incidents and injuries, immunisation, excursions, sun safety, positive guidance, transitions and communication.

Tell us about any court orders, approved pick-up arrangements, health needs or preferences about your child appearing in digital or print media. We will handle this information confidentially and sensitively. Visitors sign in and out; unfamiliar people collecting a child must show ID and be on the child’s pick-up list.

Staying connected

Whānau are partners in learning. Keep in touch through conversations, phone calls, email, learning portfolios and centre communication. Both centres have Facebook pages updated each week with photo moments from children’s learning and development
